On January 1, 2008, the BBIR contracted with MetaMorphix®, Inc. ~ MMI Genomics Inc. Laboratory for analysis
services. The resulting registration with DNA certification will offer integrity beyond question and add value to breeding
programs. It is a requirement for
BBIR registration and is recorded in the BBIR stud book. It is required for imported
breeding stock; dogs whose semen is collected for fresh-extended, chilled or frozen use; and is required prior to breeding
sires and dams.
BBCA/BBIR has a strict confidentiality policy regarding its database and DNA profiles.

What:
Each gene is present as two copies and are displayed as letters for the purpose of labeling each gene. Offspring receive
one copy of each gene from each parent in a random process. DNA sequences are also inherited one copy from each
parent.

This technology does not use actual genes, but tests the DNA sequences that are inherited one copy from each parent.
For this reason, your dog's DNA Profile does not provide any information about the conformation of the dog or the
presence/absence of genetic diseases, and cannot determine the breed of a dog

Why:
To ensure the integrity of the BBIR Registry.  Guarantees continuity from one generation to the next an eliminates
concerns or questions about identification and parentage.

BBIR Database and Parentage Verification - Comparison of the DNA profiles of a dam, sire, and pup(s) will determine,
with greater than 99% confidence, whether the pups are from the tested dam and sire. The
BBIR database examines the
parentage of all
BBIR DNA Profiled registered dogs and litters.  When and if problems are discovered, the DNA staff works
with breeders to determine correct parentage at the breeder's expense.

Future breed recognition. UKC and AKC accept the MMI DNA profiles into their stud books.

How:
Contact  the BBCA’s DNA representative, Valerie Kibler, for a DNA Test Kit which includes a swab that the owner uses to
collect loose cells from inside the dog's cheek. Complete instructions will arrive with your kit.

You will receive Certificate of DNA Analysis with your dog’s information and a representation of the DNA Profile. Also, your
BBIR registration certificate will reflect that your dog has a DNA profile recorded in the stud book of the Biewer Breed
International Registry
, and future pedigrees will reflect that a DNA Profile is on record for that sire or dam.

Cost:

The BBCA/BBIR was able to negotiate a small price break for our BBCA club members only.  Kit's are priced at our
cost plus a small amount for postage. Nothing was added for the club and the Rep’s time is on a volunteer basis. The kit
price per dog is: $50.00 + 1.00 postage/handling = $51.00 per dog.
